Medical Microbiology is more than just an important subset of the vast field of Microbiology. Be it battling a pandemic that shapes world history or discovering a novel antibiotic that saves millions, a Medical Microbiologist plays a pivotal role in keeping the world healthy and safe.
The dissertations of our students have ranged from pioneering assessments of antibiotic resistance patterns in Kerala to studies on the viral genome. The department plans to further these research initiatives and has worked towards obtaining funds for new equipment. Furthermore, we hope this will draw attention to the possibility of setting up a public health reference/ research laboratory within the department soon.
